It is strongly recommended that only ages 14 and up attend\, however this event is all ages. \n\nPLAY INFO: \n“One-Act Play Weaves Social Justice Theme To Storytelling” \nLOS ANGELES – At 16-years old\, Vance Webster witnessed a shooting. When he refused to “snitch\,” he was caught between the crosshairs of a jilted girlfriend\, a biased criminal system and misplaced loyalty to friends. The end result? Life in prison. \nA one-act play\, “29 Years For 13 Seconds” chronicles the life of Webster who served 29 years in prison for a 13-second crime he witnessed as a teenager. Because he refused to cooperate with the district attorney (honoring the “no-snitching code”)\, he was given a life sentence. The play\, however\, is less about his time in prison\, and is mostly a snapshot of his belief that prisons are filled with “good kids” whose lives are shaped by good parents who\, unfortunately\, make and model bad choices. \nFrom bad choices that have “torpedoed” his life to all his failed efforts at beginning again\, “29-Years For 13-Seconds” opens with present-day Duke (Webster’s street name) seated in a one-room studio acknowledging “while Jesus saves in the eternity\, prison saved me in the meantime.” The angst of the 50-year old formerly incarcerated man sharing a community bathroom with 16 other people who evidently don’t know you’re supposed to “pee inside the toilet” is palpable in the performance of Billy “Issim Dark” Ramsey\, Jr. as “Duke.” Ramsey’s artistic interpretation of Webster’s journey is arresting\, especially when paired with his partner-in-creativity Iris Huey who brilliantly moves between the six distinct female characters she plays. \nFor more information on the show\, visit www.unshackledproductions.com or email alexusrhone@gmail.com.

Little did I know she would change my life forever.\nI have suffered from depression on and off my whole life. Choosing not to take prescription drugs I found my yoga mat. So much Healing has taken place on my mat and I am forever grateful for it. \nDespite major transformation on and off my mat out of the blue and for no reason at all\, I found myself in one of the darkest places I had been in in my entire life. If you have ever experienced depression you might understand what I’m talking about. This cloud hung over me for 6 straight months. I felt completely hopeless and depleted\, crying myself to sleep day and night praying that I would not have to face another day. \nI know this is not something that everyone likes to hear about\, but I am sharing my story because I want people to know that they are not alone. There are resources out there and people who care. When I arrived Kala came right up to me and started chewing on my shoelace ( not much has changed;) she didn’t leave my side the entire time I was there. Almost two years later she is still at my side through all my ups and downs. Her unconditional love has given me the opportunity to change my perspective in so many ways. \nEven though I rescued her\, she is truly the one who rescued me.

DESCRIPTION:Back for a second year\, Feeding the Future unites top Phoenix chefs and high school students from around the Valley to create a new vision for school food. The event is hosted by the Blue Watermelon project\, an initiative of Slow Food Phoenix. \nWith mentorship from professional chefs\, six teams of high school students have crafted meals that adhere to both the nutritional and budgetary restrictions of the National School Lunch Program. Each team spent months testing and costing recipes with the help of Blue Watermelon Project chefs to better understand the challenge schools face everyday: how to provide delicious\, nutritious and affordable lunches to students. \nOn Saturday\, January 26\, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. at The Farm at South Mountain\, attendees can taste and see these reimagined cafeteria trays at a special tasting event and competition. Students and their mentor chefs will serve samples of their school lunches\, alongside bites\, drinks and desserts from other Blue Watermelon chefs. \nA panel of judges also will select one team to receive scholarships from the Blue Watermelon project. Attendees will be invited to vote and help select one team for a People’s Choice Award.

DESCRIPTION:FREE Arbor Day Festival at The Farm at South Mountain\nCelebrate Historic Trees in the Phoenix Farm District on April 26th!\nArbor Day Festival at The Farm\n6106 S. 32nd Street Phoenix\, AZ 85042\nFriday\, April 26\, 2019\n9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. \nWith over 160 trees\, (some dating back to before World War II) it is only natural for The Farm at South Mountain to host a free celebration on Arbor Day for the community. \nGather and Grow at The Farm at South Mountain will be hosting its second Arbor Day Festival on Friday\, April 26\, 2019 with free community activities and demonstrations that incorporate sustainability and arboriculture. The Farm at South Mountain is dedicated to teaching all members of the community about recycling\, composting\, gardening\, aquaponics and educational sustainability workshops. The theme of this Arbor Day Festival is community\, which coincides with Gather and Grow’s mission to be the model of sustainability for the Phoenix community and trees are communities of their own. This event will be centered around arboriculture\, sustainability\, community and more! \nParents are encouraged to bring their children for the following free activities on Friday\, April 26\, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. \n• History of Arbor Day – Visit Gather and Grow’s table in the grove for our introduction that highlights the history of Arbor Day and how arboriculture plays a huge role here at The Farm.\n• Tree Scavenger Hunt – Explore The Farm as you find different species of trees! Earn extra points by taking photos and using #TheFarmArborDay. Show the Gather and Grow team that you finished and the first 10 completed will win a special Farm prize!\n• Tree Ring Count – Guess the age of each tree stump by the amount of tree rings! Guests that have the correct answer will be entered to win a prize!\n• Bark Art Booth – Create your own tree art to take home at this bark art booth!\n• Community of Trees – The Farm at South Mountain strives to make an impact on their community and a tree is a community of its own. Draw your own version of what a tree means to you!\n• The Future of Arbor Day – The Founder of Arbor Day stated that “Other holidays repose upon the past; Arbor Day proposes for the future.” At this activity\, write down your promises or goals towards arboriculture in your community! \nAt 12:00 p.m.\, the Gather and Grow at The Farm sustainability fellows will be demonstrating how to create your own compost and showcasing our vermiculture program here at The Farm. Learn how to create your own compost\, the benefits of composting and how worms can help in this process! \nNo reservations are required to attend. This festival is free to all attendees. If attendees would like to enjoy breakfast or lunch before or after the festival\, Morning Glory Café and The Farm Kitchen will be open for regular business hours. \nOther sustainability organizations such as AZ Trees and Reimagine Phoenix\, will be on site to provide resources and education. \n*No outside food or drink is allowed at The Farm.
